दिवाळी — "दीपांची माळ" — भारतीय संस्कृतीचा सर्वांत भव्य सण. अंधारावर प्रकाश व अधर्मावर धर्माच्या विजयाचे प्रतीक. महाराष्ट्रात पाच दिवसांचा सण: वसुबारस (गाय-वासरांची पूजा), धनत्रयोदशी, नरक चतुर्दशी, लक्ष्मीपूजन (कार्तिक अमावस्या), बलिप्रतिपदा (पाडवा). भाऊबीज दुसऱ्या दिवशी. आकाशकंदील, फराळ (चकली, चिवडा, लाडू, करंज्या), रांगोळी — मराठी घराची शोभा.
दिवाळी — महत्त्व
According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile on the new moon day of Kartika. The people lit oil lamps to welcome them. In other traditions, it commemorates Lord Krishna defeating Narakasura, or the goddess Lakshmi's emergence during the churning of the ocean.
